Inspection and testing asphalt plant equipment
ABOUT US
Helping contractors plan best for scheduled shutdowns

We want you to be prepared to perform your planned maintenance in the most knowledgeable way. We keep a great deal of information on asphalt plant components, trends in part wear life, testing and statistics that will help you know your plant's needs at shutdown time. Here are a few examples. Contact us to discuss your needs today.

Thickness testing and analysis. In this example, we will examine silo cone and tub wall liners. One of the best ways to determine wear is based on the current thickness level and in comparison to the original equipment design. Unfortunately, some manufacturers cut corners and used either a thinner steel shell or didn't use abrasive-resistant plates. We have seen OEM components that did not have retention rings and tie straps to secure the cone to the silo tub walls. In a number of cases this has been disastrous for the contractor when the silo cone separated and crushed the truck, injured or killed the driver and did hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage. We have a number of suggestions of how the thickness can be checked and monitored on a periodic basis, providing installation for sacrificial sidewall liners, silo cone liners and other recommendations. This can all be done in preparation of the off season for running a continuous and safe operation during the production season without the risk of downtime.

Slat conveyor predictive wear part life. With slat conveyors, there are a number of items that need to be monitored in order to run in a continuous mode in the critical times of the year. The wear on the bushing of the chain, potential wear on the sidebars, sprockets, bearings, liners and other items can all be evaluated. Hotmix Parts & Service will assist in helping determine if there is enough life in some of the components to continue to operate or if certain items should be scheduled for replacement along with a safety stock of critical components to avoid emergency shutdown.

Baghouse inspection - testing and review. The best way to determine the predictive life of the fabric filter bags, valves and others is through inspection. Hotmix Parts & Service offers a number of items such as:
  • Moonlight/Fluorescent powder and full spectrum monitoring lights to show any leaks in bags or seams and welds.
  • Bag testing to determine penetration and infiltration of particles through the filter.
  • Valve operation and timer sequencing should be inspected.
  • Induced draft fan should be monitored for vibration and off balance condition.
  • The dust takeaway system should be evaluated in particularly where items such as tipper valves, rotary vane feeders or airlocks, repaired or replaced prior to a long production month.
